Alright, so I just got my P870DM-G, and I am excited to play with it. I managed to get it to post on the first few tries, but after putting in my 2.5 SSD, the system is no longer posting to the internal screen, or external screen.
I have tried draining CMOS, disconnecting the battery, reseating RAM, I don't know what to do

Did you try removing the SSD?

The symptoms sound similar to GPU failure since the DM-G has the Intel iGPU disabled for G-Sync, so it might be worth trying another one in it. Any Clevo card should work in theory.

[Edit] Actually I noticed in your sig that you have 2666mhz RAM in it, if you do not have the Prema BIOS that can cause issues with compatibility. Try removing 1 stick of it and test it in different slots, if that fails then i'd buy a really cheap used stick of 2133mhz RAM to test. I have heard the stock BIOS has issues with higher frequency RAM.

Go back to the setup you could post with and see if it still works.

I'm going, as off now I've narrowed it down to either a GPU issue or a RAM issue, I believe the GPU is fried because I think LM spilled on the die (I bought it pre applied) and it isn't posting correctly in my P377SM-A as a dGPU or with my 8950M installed as primary. I'm going to take some DDR4 out my Dad's Dell to try and fix this, it also could be an incompability with the G-sync Mobo and screen and non-gysnc GPU, but I highly doubt it

I'm just really annoyed that it isnt working, I paid $1k for this and I feel as though it should work out of the box, and I'm really tired of having to tinker with everything, the fun has gone out of it for me

Sorry you have to experience this. But was it used a foam dam on hardware to avoid LM spills? If not... Always be sure LM ain’t applied when buying used machine that will be sent. You don’t know if it’s properly done. And the risk for LM spills increases if heatsink doesn’t have good fits on hardware.

There was something on it that seemed to be blocking the LM, but I don't know what it was. As of right now, the 980M isnt posting in the P377SMA, but when used as a secondary GPU with my HD8950M, it is recognized in windows. However, no display is connected to it so I cant run 3D tests
I cleaned the LM off the 6700K and 980M, as well as both heatsinks

The HD 8950M doesn't seem to post either in the P870DM, but thats probably a GPU incompatibility or RAM problem

Alright, so i'm going to prepare for worst case scenario, does anyone know the cheapest GPU that works in this?

Alright, so here is more detailed explanation of what happens with the 980m in my P377SM-A. I turn on the laptop, and keyboard lights turn on, but no display external, or internal. It turns it self off after a few moments.
The same thing is happening in the P870DM,
Except it doesn't turn itself off.

With the 980M in the secondary MXM slot, and the 8950M in the primary, the P377SMA posts, and I can install the 980M drivers after a bit of bumping around in windows. But, no display is connected to it and I can't do any 3D tests on it.

As off now, I'm installing the 980M back in the P870DM, and just using the P377SMA as is with the 8950m

Alright, so a sad day indeed. I've decided to return the P870DM-G, but will be trying a few more things on it to see if I can get it too work

In lieu of this, I've decided to just get a M6700 instead, supports 3rd gen i7's which are cheap enough and will just chuck in a 970M and get it over with

I'll consider it, but its not likely I will

Just a little burn't out right now. If you can do $1,400, I'll consider it, thats my budget right now, best to move to PM

I'm using Kingston HyperX 2667 CL15 in my 870DM w/o Prema and it's working as intended. Maybe specific BIOS revisions have problems?

Sorry to hear things went south. But in the used market, issues sometimes do pop up (especially if the pricing is great).

I picked up a second hand 870DM last month and I'm currently waiting for a replacement main GPU fan that is working but rattling, ended up having to fix the bottom casing while removing the foil for air flow, and delid the CPU properly w/ a lapped bitspower SL IHS but it's working as intended beautifully right where it needs to be for a GREAT price (specs in sig).

I was interested in the one you bought, but the price point wasn't quite there.

Just take your time and price watch. Never rush and be patient (unless for some critical reason you need it NOW NOW NOW).

And as always, when buying a system with LM that has to travel (depending on the application type), always request for it to be removed before travel (unless it is a custom, guaranteed application job like hidevolution offers).

Did you try to work out a partial refund? Maybe refund the cost of a 980m and source another one elsewhere?

I'm just doing a full redund, as soon as seller confirms it arriving back they'll refund me. Considering I wasn't able to confirm whether the notebook itself was fried, I'm not really interested in a partial refund if the whole thing turns up dead.
