I've done some searching on the forums and found a couple of posts where people were looking for PATA SSDs to put in older machines.
So far, I've found products from Transcend, Mtron, Solidata and PhotoFast.
However, none of them seem to mention having internal garbage collection, which seems like it would be a "must have" feature given TRIM commands aren't going to be passed over the PATA interface.
PhotoFast has a few 1.8" drives that have internal garbage collection, and a few 2.5" ones, but none of the newer 2.5" ones seem to be available anywhere but Japan.
So...anybody know of a 2.5" PATA SSD w/ internal garbage collection?

The photofast ones are available there? -
Yeah, that's the PhotoFast one w/o GC, as far as I can telll.
Check out the PhotoFast page here:

That orange one dvnation is selling looks like the V2, which isn't mentioned as having GC.
They have a V3 and V3s in the 2.5" PATA format, and those mention having GC, but I can't find them for sale anywhere. -

GC is no must have, like trim is none. what is a must have is, given the features the ssd has, it has to work well with it.
mtrons work very well without any GC or TRIM support. they predate ANY other "good" ssd, so have no support for such fancy marketing term. i have two mtrons, they work just fine. you might consider resetting them once a year if the machine is much in use (trying different os, moving around tons of data, etc). but that is only might and consider and if you use it much. means most likely, no
the mtrons will now move over to my dad. -

How does it pass a TRIM command over PATA? I figured it was an SATA thing and wouldn't be possible over PATA. (Hence my putting so much emphasis on garbage collection.)

Hi guys,
Two weeks ago I bought an IDE SSD (Photofast 25IDE V3) from the UK webshop.
There is Garbage Collection by the factory, but i can't check it.

I put win7 on it and it has poor performance.
Read: 92MB/s
Write: 46MB/s
Can you help me solve this problem?
I checked the SSD with DiskInfo and there is no TRIM support with my system. Intel 915, no AHCI
