    Model: EasyNote K5306
    OS: Windows XP
    DVD Drive #1: Panasonic UJ850 HW:1.00 FW: 1.50
DVD Drive #2: Phillips SDVD 8441

I have K5306 with working (detects OS & system) old DVD drive, but doesn't read/write any CDs or DVDs. After some search & suggestion of this forum, nothing helped so decided to just to change the drive.
Both drives (#1 & #2) are new, Tarox/Sony systems detects them & doesn't give any error in write/read process, but not the K5306. The PB system just gives the power on boot Windows & that's it. BIOS doesn't detect, Windows also, on loaded Windows it even doesn't open the drives.
It's first time for me such problem with detections. Any suggestions? Any ideas that could be the problem.

It might be a master / slave / CSEL issue.

Look into Device Manager, ATA / ATAPI controllers. Then look at the properties of the Primary and Secondary ICE channels. [If there is no Secondary IDE channel then it means that the ODD has to share the primary channel with the HDD - you can check this even if the old ODD is not available or broken.] Is the ODD Device #1 (= slave) on the primary IDE channel If the ODD is slave or there is no Secondary IDE channel then you need a replacement which is also pre-set to slave.

The majority of notebooks let the ODD have the Secondary IDE channel for itself, in which case it doesn't matter how the ODD is configured (most are pre-set to master).

The master/slave setting is usually in the ODD firmware. You might be able to get a different firmware then using one of the other notebooks, change the new ODDs firmware to the right setting.
