Hello all, I am looking to buy a new laptop for gaming and am pretty certain on the Eon17-SLX. I haven't been able to decide on a few things:

GPU: single 980m or dual 970m (SLI)? - I've heard SLI can cause problems for some games, so I'm not sure if the extra power will be worth it.

CPU: i7: 4810MQ or the 4910MQ? -any significant difference?

Storage: Is SSD worth it? Should I get an SSD along with an HDD? What amount of total space do you think is reasonable?

As you can see I'm pretty new to this so I have a lot of questions, especially about the GPU. Any help would be appreciated.

Get at least 256GB of SSD, for your OS and programs, and a larger HDD for storage, if needed. You won't regret it.

You should probably provide answers to the questions listed in the " What notebook should I buy" forum so we can give you proper advice. Specifically, what's your budget, how and where you intend to use it, and how much storage you need.

The answer to the 980m vs 970m SLI question depends heavily on your budget and what games you will be playing. Ultimately, 2 970ms will give you better performance on games that support SLI, but a single 980m will give you better performance on everything else while giving you room to upgrade to 980m SLI at a later date.

The 4910MQ has 8MB L2 cache over the 4810MQ's 6MB, in addition to having a higher base clock speed. Others could probably tell you more than I could about their overclocking potential, but I'd guess the 4910MQ would OC better than the 4810MQ.

SSD is totally worth it for the OS disk and for game installations. Whether you should get only 1 SSD, or 1 SSD and 1 HDD, depends on your budget and your storage needs. Personally, I don't think less than 256GB is suitable for an OS drive, but that's just me.

    Good luck!
