Hello, Sorry if this has been asked before I couldn't find anything reliable on Google. If I missed something, links would be appreciated!

So I have a old IBM T23 That can only run off of PC133. I have 1 128mb stick of PC133 and 4 of PC100. I also have a IBM A22M that can take either. I'm hoping to get 256mb into it.

I don't want to spend any money on them really. The T23 is going to be my new go anywhere laptop, as the battery life after new Japanese cells if outstanding.

I'm going to turn the A22M into a DVR. Hooking up a external hdd and a camera to keep an eye on my Ninja and Toyota. I'll be posting a how to. If anyone is interested.. pretty straight forward though.

Anyway... 256 is better than 128 last time I checked =P and i was hoping someone knows how or has flashed PC100 to PC133. Or is it even possible.

Thank in advance Guys and Gals!

it should run off of PC100, it is the exact same thing just slower...

Nope, All 5 sticks work with the A22M, but only the PC 133 works with the T23. I have tried ever combination possible with the ram, so i know the ram slot isn't dead.

Props to you sir for using such classic, quality machines.

I think you may have confused what the OP said, but I don't think the original post helps.

@OP: you can't flash RAM to run at a faster speed than what it is manufactured for. The only flexibility in terms of compatibility is that RAM can downclock by one "step". For example, you can use an 800MHz module on a 667MHz board since the former stick can downclock itself for compatibility purposes.

The T23 uses a newer Pentium 3-M processor with a FSB running at 133 MHz while the A22m uses the older standard Pentium 3 processor (FSB of 100 MHz).

PC133 RAM automatically downclocks to 100 when running in the A22m but unfortunately your PC100 RAM cannot "upclock" to 133, which the T23 needs to run.

However, PC133 SODIMMs are relatively cheap nowadays and you can find it on eBay. You can get a 512MB stick of PC133 for $20.

As for changing the speed of the memory. Yes. sometimes you can change the SPD of the memory with special software or equipments.

Changing the SPD from faster memory to slower memory is usually due to the compatibility issue. And changing the spd from slower memory to faster memory would be "over-clocking" the memory.

Some memory CAN be flashed to a faster version, assuming the memory can handle the faster speeds, but I've never seen it done with SDRAM (or EDO?). 100MHz to 133MHz is a 33% overclock which is unheard of for memory to overclock that much. Usually it's max 20-25% even with good memory.

    Thanks for your replies guys!

I know why the t23 can't use the pc100 memory. I did some research about pc100 and 133, it sounds like that PC 133 is just factory oced pc100. I have a stick of pc100 that is the same brand model at type as the pc133 but its clocked at 100, even the circuitry is the same. . I understand how computer hardware is placed eg nvidia gts gs gtx etc so I assume its close to the same thing with ram as well.?

So If it was possible to oc the pc100 to 133 would the t23 even take it?

and does anyone know how to oc such old ram?

    Thanks again guys!

No. Because it would still be seen as PC100 but overclocked. Only way to overclock RAM is in the BIOS or unlocked FSB that will overclock EVERYTHING including RAM unless there's multipliers to allow RAM to be oc'd and everything else remain stock
