    PC2-6400 SO-DIMM Roundup

    Saw this interesting roundup. As it seems PC2-6400 cannot be used at 400MHz either from 945 or 965 chipsets even with Santa Rosa platform...So waste of money :eek:

    I wouldn't read too much into the relative differences on performance between different RAM types. For example, the 3DMark results are over a range of 4 in 1900 and, in my experience, it is difficult to get that level of consistency in repeated tests using the same hardware.

    The key point is that all the PC6400 RAM that I have seen is still CL=5 @ 667MHz and will therefore run no faster with current hardware than standard 667MHz RAM (unlike PC5300 RAM which usually is CL=4 at 533MHz). However, I am on the lookout for a 2GB PC6400 module at a nice price on the assumption that the next generation of chipsets will support it at its full speed.

    I was under the impression that the Monteniva platform (when it comes out) will use DDR3 SO-DIMM's?

    In any case, it's a long way off.
