Lately I have been configuring a notebook, on Lenovo's website... these are the options I have...
1GB Pc2-8500
2GB PC2-8500
3GB PC2-8500
so if I wanted to round it out to 4GB where would I get a DDR2 PC2-8500.. heck until 2 day's ago I didn't think mobile DDR2 went to 1066Mhz.
By the way this is Lenovo Canada which is not offering us(Canada) DDR3.

I haven't seen DDR2-1066 (200-pin) yet. Maybe its a typo on Lenovo's website (Any link?). I guess they might be talking about DDR3-1066.
-
Maybe they are getting it custom made straight from the manufacturer, which would give them an edge because if you want to have the faster ram it means you have to order it through them, which means more money going into them
-
I'm with Andy on the typo... there is not even a chipset that supports DDR2 1066 in laptops, and I doubt they are getting custom chipsets made for them exclusively as well. -
This must be a typo, it's not part of the new montevina chipset . . .
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...052939102+1309239101&name=DDR3+1066+(PC3+8500) only supports DDR3 at those speeds.

This is the second time I have seen mention of DDR2 1066. In the 1st some one corrected me when I said DDR2 only goes up to 800? Said JEDEC standards now include DDR2 1066. I now take issue! Anyone who says there is DDR2 1066, please explain? Are they increasing the bus speed? Or is the multiplier going above x4? Until someone explains in an informed even linked if needed manner I will remain having doubts. I am aware there are DDR speeds not included or supported by JEDEC. That is not what I mean. See I know DDR uses a X2 DDR2 x4 DDR3 x8 I/O's resulting in increased speed. But 1066 DDR2?
Anyway sorry will go look at site that is offering. Have a great night all! -

all of these are typo's? just curious, because I am HOPEING it's DDR3 but it does say DDR2-8500 (which does exsist for Desktops) -
The best way to find out is give Lenovo a call if you are thinking of buying a notebook. -
Considering the following gaffes that Lenovo has made recently, I think it's safe to assume that they mean PC3-8500:
http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/06/lenovos-wtf-of-the-day-thinkpad-r400-for-200-marked-down-fro/
http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/05/thinkpad-x200-70-cheaper-with-128gb-ssd-option-order-now/
Also, if you go here, it clearly says PC3-8500:

The Canadian site has ' PC2-8500 DDR2' for all models. Wow. Canadians are shafted again. Pass it on.
-
Yah, as said above It might be a general Typo. a little later I am going to call and post back with the response. -
CONFIRM: I just called Lenovo Canada, and Canadian's are not being shafted all of the new Montevina ThinkPad models do come with 'PC3-8500 1066MHz DDR3, non-parity' memory to quote serge, and NOT PC2-8500.
you guys were right. -
Edit: +rep for you
PC2-8500 (mobile) where do you get it?
