Hey, had a quick question about this.

A friend's sending me an HP 3115m netbook as thanks for some work I did for him a little while ago, and none too soon as my other machines have some serious issues that I really can't afford to throw parts at right now.

Anyway, I think he said it only has 1-2GB of 1066 RAM installed and said the performance was pretty lackluster and suggested I go for a RAM upgrade once I get this machine in. I have 4GB of 8500 RAM sitting in one of my retired machines. I'd rather not have to buy new RAM right off the bat as I'm saving up for a cross-country move in a couple of months, so would my old RAM work in this system for the time being?

You gotta check that his netbook is actually using DDR3 RAM. That being said, you gotta be careful as most netbooks I know have only 1 slot for RAM plus many are also hard limited to 2gb due to the crappy motherboard.

I have confirmed it is. The 3115m will take up to 8GB of PC3-10600.

then there should be no issue, speed and latency is the same. The only way for the netbook to reach 8gb is either 4x2gb or 2x4gb. Therefore I don't think there will be an issue with the 4gb stick.
