Im looking at upgrading the ram in a Vostro 1500 (2.2ghz, 4mb L2, 800mhz FSB, 7200rpm HD) and was wondering if going the extra $ for PC6400 will yield any performance Improvement?

No. It will not be any improvements in your Vostro 1500, as it runs the Santa Rosa chipset. It'll downclock the memory to 667 instead, and it will run it exactly as PC5300 memory. In other words, worthless upgrade for extra $.

Some notebooks that use desktop processors can use 800MHz RAM...but the biggest thing is that manufacturers can start pushing for PC6400 RAM as standard, thus helping them make more $$$ later.

That is true, and I agree. But do point out that they do have higher memory bandwidths when the FSB is greater than the RAM speed. Desk tops have I believe as high as 1333Mhz running 800Mhz. Notebooks also get a higher bandwidth with higher FSB. I am too tired to explain but trust me. ;) In the old days they thought double the RAM speed was ideal. Faster FSB does help.

Same question here. I have a Sony Vaio Core 2 Duo T7250 2.0ghz 800mhz FSB and was considering upgrading from pc5300 to 6400, would it do any good?

Nope, it won't do any good (if you're not into overclocking). The PC2-6400 will downclock to PC2-5300.
    And please do not necropost.
