Do they make PCI-e RAID controllers for laptops? I want to run a hardware RAID for laptop drives in a striped format. I'm looking for sheer speed here as backup is not an issue. I understand that outdated Sagers have h/w raid controllers and a current thinkpad have them, but I'm looking for something that can be dropped in the PCI-e slot. If so, how does these compare to the h/w raid controllers in the ole sager/thinkpad?

This is probably to go in a future Clevo laptop with 2/3 harddrives. I have been looking to getting back into video editing/3d modeling for CS - this is why I'm interested.

    No,
hardware raid cards are generally large, and require active cooling. Desktop/server raid cards are generally about $600-4000 depending on the performance/number of drives you want.
