so far from the preliminary results Im loving the new MBA SSD, and given its apple it should trickle down to all its notebooks, I just hope its M.2

dude, apple LOVES one word and only one word, "proprietary"
-
@qweryuiop: Haha, that's true.
In a completely unrelated notice, what's that CPU you're sporting there? -
its the sample CPU i got off ebay, which is:
Advertised as 3720QM ES QBC1
CPU-z gives me the name of 3720QM
Clock speed and L3 cache size identical to the 3820QM
Has unlocked multiplier that is only available on OEM xm chips(3920xm)
can overclock above 4 Ghz
thus thats how I call it, 3720XM
though IF CPU-Z gives out the name as genuine intel CPU
I'd say most people will call this the 3820qm
or even 3820xm since its unlocked..... -

some reading, they are using the new sata express, to achieve those numbers in that notebook its dandy
and Ill just post this here, so that i dont have my hopes crushed so soon
-
now back to the macbook air: Sata express pins with an ever-so-slightly smaller than M2 slot?
take the other source in hand: mac pro PCIE flash storage, just not in PCIE slot shape -
P.S. they didn't solder it on board simply because there are many different storage size configuration, and SSD controllers might experience the panic lock by accident, if this never happens I'd pretty much guarantee it will be soldered
another question out there, storage expansion on the "R2D2" must be via thunderbolt, however do they work on native SATA speed or must go through signal conversion i.e. speed lost -

apple applied gains of economy scale, its appears that they will use the same SSD for all their machines that can deal with an SSD, last year there were only 2 machines that didnt use the proprietary format, mac mini (unknown strange reasons) and the mac pro (dat old guy)
so its safe to assume that whatever the hell they are using there will be on the other parts
I think there will be a signal conversion here. since the system will probably use ACHI on the controller for the storage add on, though my knowledge on this is fairly limited to say the least -
So CPU's like yours are the reason for the ES craze
Awesome chip mate.
-
And thats why intel is trying to stop people from selling them since technically they are stolen....
-
Not sure what all the fuss is about, VAIO Z has had faster SSD with proprietary SATA interface for several years.
It would be nice to see a move towards NGFF/M.2. for laptops in general though. -

So? WHo cares... the speed and reliability is important. Whether they use magic or RAID is none of my concern
I would prefer it be non-proprietary so I can change it without extortinate prices, like Apple'sOr Sony's
PCIe SSD
