Do these exist?
I just got 5.1 speakers for my desktop, but want to use them on my laptop occasionally. is there a PCMCIA 5.1 sound card somewhere thats kind of cheap?

look towards this:
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
it goes for $50-100. -
hmm, that is a tad over my budget (its like $150 in australia). is there a cheaper version or a cheap brand or something?

There's plenty of 5.1 USB sound cards. Sounds Blaster Live! USB works well, I have one and I'm pleased with it. Also, you can re-use a USB sound card with your next laptop (unlike a PCMCIA card).
No reason to go PCMCIA unless you plan to haul your 5.1 speakers around with you. -

The Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS is the only PCMCIA sound card I have seen. I have one in my Sager and it works great.
I'd look for a USB solution as noted. -
The only other PCMCIA sound cards I've heard of are designed for recording/mixing and cost far more. The Audigy 2 ZS is probably the only consumer/gamer one around.

I would go usb as well. Cheaper than PCMCIA (well... depends). With USB you get the versatility of being able to use it on practically any system and not being tied to a laptop (and also PCMCIA being phased out!). Also the extra space afforded by having usb allows potentially for a better DAC
I'm thinking M-Audio Revolution 5.1. I read it decodes Dolby AC-3 and DTS with software and works with Foobar 2000, ASIO4ALL, and Kernel Streaming -
ok thanks for the info, so whats a good usb one?

i just got the sound blaster live 24 bit. i'll run it in this arvo.

I think there is the X-Fi notebook soundcard available...
PCMCIA Sound Card.
