I JUST got my Lifebook 6410!
Anyways, I went to install some RAM I had bought, and as I was reading through the User's guide I realized the Ram I bought is too slow. (533mhz)
Its a duo core with 667 FSB, will using the 533mhz negatively affect any of the hardware or programs? What implications will it have?
-
Well, besides being a tad slower(which you probrably won't notice), there is nothing wrong with it.
However, what RAM was it preinstalled with? If its 667, it will automatically downclock the RAM to 533mhz if I recall correctly. -
512MB at 667mhz.
I have 2g at 533mhz sitting next to me.
The guy at Fujitsu(nice guy) said that the faster FSB could destroy the RAM?? -
I doubt that it would destroy anything. The worst thing that would happen is that your computer would not boot. That's about it, I believe, no burnt RAM or anything like that.
Most likely, your system would just run at the slower 533 speed, which would not be a huge difference. Plus, having 2g rather than 512mb would be more beneficial, I would think, than the faster FSB. Sometimes FSB speed increase makes a huge difference, but I think the margin of the amounts outweighs the margin of speed in this instance.
Good luck in whatever you decide! -
People in the sony forum reported their pcmark05 scores going down when they went to 667
533 in dual channel will pretty much max out your speed
-
Thats interesting.
Well, the RAM works fine. Im using it now and it definitely sped things up. =) -
Good to hear!

667MHz module have a higher latency than 533MHz. So while bandwidth will increase real daily usage will suffer a bit from the higher latency. So not that whole much of a gain.
-
Thanks for everyone's input. Right or wrong, she's running real quick now.

The dude at the store is a moron. Either way both modules either at 667 or 533 should perform pretty similarly, nothing to worry about.
If it bothers you, you could return it for the 667mhz modules.
Cheers,
Mike
PLEASE help me...quick question
