hi again, i have another problem. i got my ram, hdd, video card and cpu all installed, put everything back together, and tried to turn my laptop on. the light around the power button came on, the dvd drive spun, all the fans worked, but after about 7 seconds the computer shuts itself off. i also noticed that the screen doesn't appear to come on. i switched the slot i had my ram in and tried to boot, that didn't work, checked my hdd and video card and still nothing changed. could this be a processor issue?

Is the RAM, CPU and GPU compatible with the motherboard ?
    Are they properly seated ?

Try resetting the BIOS by, removing all sources of power such as AC Supply, Battery, USB devices, etc and then hold down the Power Button for 20 seconds, and then Reboot.

alright thanks for the help i'll try the reset right now. all of the hardware is compatible, i bought the laptop as a barebone and just had to order the ram, and i'm sure it was the right kind of ram.

the only other thing i can say that i did was after the first few failed attempts at booting i took the ram out and tried again and nothing changed.

    i'll post my results asap

Its a hardware fault, either with the GPU or the CPU.
If the HDD would have been bad, you would have gone beyond POST.
Since you have already tried switching the RAM slots, then I guess there is nothing left that you can do, except claim a warranty if you have one.

No, it is a memory recognition problem. You mentioned in another post that you upgraded the memory.
Put the old memory back into your system, and then boot the system.
You will need to upgrade the Bios before installing the higher capacity memory cards.

It may not start up even with the old memory installed. You will have to unplug the Bios battery and all power sources in order to reset the CMOS on the system. Than you will have to install the memory which came with your system. Then boot into windows and download the latest bios update. Then install teh bios update. Then shut the system off and install the new memory.

Okay, now I know the situation.

    Dont send it back yet.

Have you installed the processor, correct?
You need to twist the screw on the socket, for the chip to be locked into the motherboard. Failure to do this can cause the cpu not to be recognized.

Also make sure that the memory is seated in the ports all of the way.
