My notebook came with a PCMIA express TV tuner from HP. It has a connector with red, white and yellow analog imputs. I would like to know If I could use this to play my ps3 through my laptop screen.

I believe you can, but not sure. I've also heard about some problems with lag when playing that way. I could be wrong.

You can play your PS3 on your laptop screen using a TV tuner. That's pretty much a given. Like Marcham89 said, though, there's a good chance that the TV tuner will induce enough lag such that your game is practically unplayable. I don't think it should be bad with a PCMCIA tuner, but you never know.

Even there is lag, you can technically play the game - like say, a turn based RPG. But like FPS games, I doubt it. Also, I think that ExpressCard would be faster than PCMCIA. Also, I'm keeping an eye on this because I want to know how this turns out. Do let us know what your results are.

Nothing needed to render if I am correct. Basically its just taking the cables and inputting the signals from the Red, White And Yellow cables and inputting it on the screen. Nothing is going by the processor/graphics card. Its going through TV tuner straight to screen.

It depends on how good your laptop and the tv tuner there could be no lag but there will be atleast a 3 or 2 second delay. A delay in game would suck because you will have to compensate on you're timing.

Well I used VLC and got it to work....
There was a delal of about 2 or 3 seconds, which is also how long it took me to get out of the game of warhawk I was in. :p

It worked, but would I use it to actually play? No way! that two or three seconds seemed like minutes!

Using a cheap 15$ game bridge is good for this and infact its main purpose. Its only VGA resolution but there is NO lag even for a moderately older system.

I got mine on ebay for like 8$ and its how I capture video for my game reviews too.

I used a tv tuner to play ps2 on my old desktop, worked fine, no lag.
