    New official Sony PS5 tear down video is posted. It had factory applied liquid metal and foam dam barrier! I wonder if they finally took note of everybody on here applying liquid metal to similar form factor devices to keep things cool, and if AMD plans to do this for their RDNA2 GPUs going forward.

    This is the only place I've really seen a foam dam barrier implemented by users of Clevo laptops. So they do look for novel ideas.

    Liquid-metal is 'cool'. But that is one ugly device that wouldn't get displayed anywhere in my home. (Even if I had a use for it).

    Yeah, I'd strip it out and try to fit a water block on it and run HDMI in the walls. I'd want to figure out an on/off switch that would stick out. But I've recently been more into moving everything toward racks and running cables in wall for a clean esthetic.

    Foam dam barrier was a new thing for me since I've seen most of them using kapton/3m insulation tape to create a barrier.

    I forgot which Clevo laptop, the dual card 18", Mr. Fox and others discuss using a foam as a dam to prevent leakage. Even if you seal it with high temp liquid electrical tape, kapton tape, or other means for the surface mount devices, the foam is to prevent liquid metal from seaping out in transit. Think of it as preventing it leaking out over to the ram or power delivery VRM.

    It's just one more thing you can do for safety. Think, this is vertical for many users, same as a GPU. Kapton tape wouldn't save your PCIe, but trapping loose liquid metal with a foam dam would.

    I think it was done on m18x and p870tm3. Also, falkentyne suggested similar things for his MSI laptop.

    Well looks like I'm famous now. But it wasn't me who first thought of the foam dam barrier. It was that Airplane pilot. Whatever his handle was.

    I dunno, looks fine to me. Don't have any use case for a game console, but I'd build a nice audio amplifier in its case, given the chance.
