Does anyone know if the Panasonic ultra slim 9.5mm blu-ray drives ever shipped? I keep reading articles from Dec 2007 about how they would be at CES 2008. Other then that I cant find anything about them.

I want to purchase one for my Dell M4400, especially since SP2 for vista and Windows 7 will support blu-ray recording in a few months.

They already sell 9.5mm Blu-ray drives on ThinkPads. I don't know the brand or whether they'll work on a m4400.

I'm in the same boat as you are krashnicki, only I got a Dell XPS M1330. Would love to get a ultra-slim Blue-Ray burner for this computer.

    so, *bump*

Wow those are some expensive drives. I think I will give it a few more months. I think the price will drop drastically after the release of Vista SP2 and Windows 7.

need a slot-loading blue-ray-drive, 9.5mm. The one linked is tray-loading... Too bad. Ah, anyway, by the time I can afford one, there's probably one on the market, at least I hope so.

The Panasonic slim line blu ray writer is the UJ-232A.
However, it seems that there's 2 versions out there: 9.5mm and 12.7mm as well. It's very hard to find information out there, even after talking to Panasonic UK and Netherlands (they're supposed to know everything) and also IBM and Lenovo don't even know their own specs for their T500/W700 drives, which are supposed to be based on the UJ-232A. But there's conflicting information everywhere....
I'm also looking for a 9.5mm slot load drive to put into my Dell Precision m6400.
Any help would be much appreciated!
    cheers,

There should be no confusion. 12.7 mm drive model number is UJ-230. 9.7mm drive model number is UJ-232.

Obviously there is confusion. Both of these drives are 12.7 mm. The UJ-230 is tray load and the UJ-232 is slot load. I think the UJ-232A is 9.5mm, but not slot load.

    I know of no 9.5 mm slot-load blu-ray drives.

Anyone ever have any luck fitting this to a 1330? or even finding one?

I'm wondering this myself. I'd love to get at least a drive capable of playing blu ray discs in my 1330. The only real things left for me to do are faster processor, 8GB of RAM and finding an internal blu ray drive.
