Hey guys, I have an Alienware M14x R1 with a Crucial M4 128GB SSD and the stock 500GB HD in the optical drive...I am currently working on using Parted Magic to completely clean the SSD and HD and will be doing a clean install of W7.

Anyways, I would like to create a separate partition on the Crucial M4 for gaming (only games, AV, Google Chrome installed - just the basics) and was wondering what the best way to do this is?

'create and format hard disk partitions'?

any reason why the windows default wouldn't be good enough?

EDIT: yes, as a crucial m4 256gb owner it works. no reason why it wouldn't work on any drive as far as i know.

Well I would like a separate partition for gaming with just the barebones installed like Antivirus, Chrome, Games, and MSI Afterburner, so that the amount of processes in the background running are significantly reduced

So, you want to dual boot? NP. Just change the partition size at Win 7 Install. I can't recall off the top of my head, but you may have to choose one of the install options to change the partition size.

One other thing you may want to consider. If you configure your system with just ONE installation, you could write a batch file using the "net stop" commands to shut down ALL but the necessary processes, run this before you start your gaming. Then you would have another batch file which runs "net start" to restart those services (or simply reboot). This way you won't waste SSD disk space w/ duplicate installs. Just a thought.
