    Hello.
I like to partition my hard drive into at least 2 different drives. One for the system and one for all the other software. I will be getting a new laptop and was wondering if partitioning would be a good thing or a bad?

The reason I think it would be a good idea is, when you go to defrag you will not have 200mb of HD to defrag and with having to write files and delete files that would fragment the drive faster. Am I wrong in thinking this?

    Thank you in advance.

I don't know enough about partitioning to make a judgment there. However if you do decide to partition your hard disk, try gnome partition editor. Download the ISO free off the net and burn it to a CD, then boot from CD. Its really easy to use.

Ya SOG Nothes, I would make sure to back up your recovery partition. If you have one. Because once its gone you better have your recover disk.

I would recomment Parted Magic live CD for a free partitioner.

Gone partitions can be in principle restored with the help of testdisk program under linux (but please use it very attentionfully!) which is present on some live CD linux distros. I think Parted Magic also has it.
