I'm looking for the best portable external hd with Firewire in the Passport/Free Agent GO category. I haven't used either of these or any other in person. Can anyone give me any info on what they chose and why and/or info on which models get the best reviews?

They're pretty much interchangeable. I just bought a $20 no-name USB2/eSATA enclosure off of Newegg when I upgraded my laptop and tossed my old drive in there.

The main difference is software that comes with the drives and price. So if you're not going to be using their software, get whichever one is cheapest. If you are, I can't help you because I never have used their crappy bundled apps... they never work on Linux :p

Ok how about just between the Free Agent Go and the Passport Studio? Anyone have any experience or info on which of these people seem to like better?

I don't have the FreeAgent Go but the FreeAgent Pro which isn't the portable version. I chose it over the comprable Western Digital MyBook series for Seagates long 5 year warranty, so you may want to consider that.

I'm thinking of picking up the Western Digital Element 1TB drive, which to me is more portable than my FreeAgent Pro but it's not 2.5" form factor.

All in all, i've heard and read good things about the Seagate Go, so you can't go wrong with it.
