I want to upgrade the 2gb RAM on my (soon to be delivered...) Dell XPS M1330 laptop to 4gb. I see that on ebay there is Patriot RAM being sold for a reasonable price:

    2 x 2GB (4GB) 256MX64
    True PC2-5300 667MHz
    DDR2 Memory
    200 Pin, Gold Leads
    1.8V
    CAS Latency (CL 5)
This is non ECC, non REGISTERED

Is Patriot a decent brand of RAM?

    Thanks.

I used one 2GB module in my Thinkpad T61. It works smoothly.

I would say that Patriot is one the lower brand names

Patriot (like many other "brands") is using Micron memory chips... pretty much as good as it gets.

    Can you say Crucial? ;)

Yeah, I checked out the hot RAM deals thread, but newegg (and a lot of other retailers) only ship to the US, and I'm in Canada.

    Try NCIX.com Tigerdirect.ca Directcanada.com etc...
    Try shopbot.ca

NCIX has corsair ram (1GB pc2-5300) for 50$

Also, I doubt you need 4GB, unless its really not much more expensive, I'd get 3GB

Cheers. There's a couple of Canadian links listed that I didn't know about.

About the best price in Canada is $300 (Canadian$ + tax). In the US it is about $200 (US$ + shipping + possible taxes and custom charges).

Nice thing about some sellers on ebay is that you can deal directly with the guy selling, and sometimes they'll mark the package with a low value and you'll avoid custom fees and taxes.

Btw- I often run multiple VPC's, so having 4GB RAM would be very nice.

    Try shoprbc.com, great service.
Got 2*1024mb 533 for $43 each, for some reason it was $1 more expensive than 667

patriot are a well known brand in usa but i tend to stick to ocz and g-skill or even geil but its a preference ;)

i myself would stay well clear of crucial and corsair value :) tho some users here like these companies :p

You can also try some tech deal sites, they often post great RAM deals at a tempting price
