    Hi all,

I currenty have a HP DV6243ea. I am looking for a new laptop but decided that instead of spending all the money I want to do the following:

    Higher Resolution LCD
    More memory (2GB)
    Extended Battery
    Larger drive

Question is the following; will I be able to find a higher resolution 15.4" display. Current one is 1280x800. Need someting better, like the ThinkPad and Dell laptops I know always have decent resolution screens.

    Any advice?

    Thanks,

The memory, battery, and drive are easily doable. But the LCD screen...well, its gonna be expensive and you have to find an LCD built exactly for the dv6000 series of laptop. Which means eBay or direct from HP.

Cool thanks, had that in mind. I checked on ebay for the LCD, at the moment only find 1280x800. But i guess there should be higher resolution ones out there.

Any suggestion on drive and memory? (In terms of quality and value for price - also which best suits HP)

I am sure the battery will also have to be a OEM part.

All this I have in mind; will it be worth it? I can't think why it won't be.

    Cheers

Just realized a typo in the thread title. Should be "Pavilion DV6000"

Man to do the LCD + Battery makes that a bit expensive. I think your better off selling your machine then getting something that has all of what you want.

The LCD is a questionable upgrade to be honest. Chances are it will not go well unless you know how to work inside of a laptop. Have you considered buying an external display?

Battery...well, yes you do want OEM. But it isn't cheap. However, if you're looking for a good way to extend your road life its a good way to go if the rest of the laptop still is okay for your needs.

Drive...you'll want any 2.5" SATA1.5 (also called SATA I, SATA 150) hard drive. I think its the 9.5mm one (not the larger ~12mm type) that you'll need. SATA is an industry standard, so you'll be fine so long as you fit the specs.

RAM...ridiculously easy. See the RAM Deals thread, which has great prices. 2GB ought to cost no more than $40-50 I think.

www.newegg.com is a good resource for parts, as is that RAM thread mentioned earlier.

Not all 15 inch screens would fit. Zfactor , a member on the forum is trying out a ton of 17 inch screens for his 17 inch laptop and not all of them fit, some are either just a bid wider or a bit taller.
It`s a tedious job and quite frankly not worth it. For about 1000$ you could get a pretty good laptop,15 inch factor and at least 1440x900 resolution...
Look at this sub-forum for discounts and coupons for various brands : http://forum.notebookreview.com/forumdisplay.php?f=12

There is a reason I said it had to be a screen from the exact model.

My guess is this will be the one upgrade that will not happen.

The RAM and HD are the best components to upgrade, but if you're looking for a higher resolution screen, higher capacity batter, and HDD+RAM, you are probably better off investing in a new laptop.
