We have an HP Pavilion dv8000. It currently has 1gb of RAM, but is supposed to be able to accept 2gb. I bought two 1gb modules of Kingston memory, DDR 2700 333ghz, which, from everything I have read, is the right memory.
I installed it and the computer will not boot. It sometimes gets all the way to the desktop, but keeps starting over.
I took the new memory out and put the old back in and it works fine.
I tried putting the new memory back in, but switching which module I put in which slot. Still same problem.
Oh, one more thing. When I go into the setup screen with the new memory in, it says there is 2gb in the computer.
Any suggestions on what else I might try?

A follow up:
I put the memory in another computer than takes the same kind and it works fine. -
Not sure what your issue is, but I also have a Pavilion dv8000 and installed 2 GB ram successfully. I bought http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148161 and installed with no issues.

Hi guys,
I also have a HP DV800 and i want to upgrade the memory.Currently it has 512 mb, but i'm not pretty sure what is the maximum that i can upgrade.
Is it 1GB or 2GB?
I ask this because one time somebody told me that there are 2 versions (or something like that) of this laptop. One has DDR and other one DDR2. I'm not really familiar with those terms. Can somebody explain to me which one can i do?
I was checking on EBAY, to buy them but i'm not pretty sure:
