Hey guys, I've been meaning to give some more breathing room to my DV8320ca laptop. I've ordered 2gig of RAM and am now looking at CPU prices.

My model has the Core Duo T2050, but I'm not too sure what socket it is, and what upgrades are possible.

Would appreciate any advice you can give me. Thanks!

Yeah any Skt M processor should work with your system. Do note that the current generation Core 2 Duo's(based on Santa Rosa) wont work even though they have the same pin count and as mujtaba mentioned a BIOS update might be necessary since the original BIOS for the dv8000t series didnt support the C2D's but it was added later on in one of the BIOS updates.

So I'm looking for a Socket M, Core 2 Duo that's not sporting the Santa Rosa core, correct?

Well, I would look out for words Socket M or check the bus speed(on some models)rather than looking for Santa Rosa. Santa Rosa refers to the whole platform rather than the cpu core. The core is still a Merom similar to the older Core 2 Duo's except they have a different pin configuration and some models support 800MHz FSB.

If it says socket P then it wont work with your system. This wikipedia list should help you out. Socket M processors should be compatible while Socket P wont...
