I need 32 channels of playback simultaneously for a wavefield synthesis rig. Could I use one of these :
PE4H (PCIe passive adapter ver2.4)
to connect one of these :
RME HDSPe RayDAT 24 Bit/96 kHz 66-Channel ADAT PCI Express Card | DV247
to a laptop ?

Most likely, yes. You might want to check the PE4L, which is x1 PCI-E only and should cost a bit less. I am not sure, however if these adapters are compatible with any laptop, you might want to have a look at this thread, which discuss the use of these adapters (albeit for video cards) in great details.
