    Hey there!

I had bought a 1GB Transcend flash drive 2.5 years ago.

It was working fine until a couple of days when my computer( nor any comp, ive tried it wid ma friends comp and also my laptop) could read it.

The light in the pen drive din light up, nor did windows acknowledge the pen drive.

Although i must say the pen drives been through a fair share of trouble (I've washed it and pressed it  ) .

btw is this the right forum to post this?(and mods if ur shiftin it, please pm me)

    Thanks,
    - sathya

Well what was your intention for posting this? Just to let random people on the internet know that your pen drive just died? Or did you actually have a question you needed to ask?

If it was the first one, there there is no such section. If it was the second, then it's the right forum but I still don't understand your question.

    RIP pen drive.

I should have been clearer. I wanted to know if theres anyway of restoring it, coz ive got important data in it.

    Really sorry.

    Thanks

You're pretty much out of luck with restoring it. You might be able to recover *some* data using recovery software, but you will not get it all, and you will not revive the drive for it to be used again.

So you should invest in a new one.

ehh its flash, once it dies its dead. its not like a hard drive where the head can die or the motor can and the platter stays intact retaining the data. unless you are great at soldering and desoldering really tiny pins to a new jump drive (which probably wont even work) your outa luck. Its best to always keep data in 2-3 locations on different media if its important to you!

    a little off topic.......
I'm really uneducated about SSD hard drives, but this is what scares me when I think about their reliability. Aren't they similar technology to flash memory? "once it dies its dead"

But the point is that it does break as easily as a glass disc inside a metal box does :p

but what i'm trying to get at is if it does die you have lots of different recovery tools for HDD's and when it comes to SSD's if it dies there's nothing you can do just like nizzy1115 explained (that's if the technology is similar to flash drives)

Good point for all to consider! If you are in fact wrong it will be pointed out and all of us will learn. I like SSD as an Idea, when flamenko buys one with his own money might be the time I buy one. They clearly have pluses and I am sorry I went off topic. But I would like to know is the SSD the same as the flash? :p

If windows doesn't recognise it then neither the recovery software can. So there's nothing you can do. Flash memory has a limited number of read/write operations. Once this limited is exceeded, it just dies.
