That would stink but its not all that surprising. Just wait and see how many people report delays when they do come online.

Doubt it, they've been heavily tested, but the latest C0 model (Qualification Sample / Retail Version) is a new stepping, so maybe Intel created a new bug.

I have noticed my cpu fan running harder than I first thought- since the CPU upgrade. But, and a big but. HP allegedly have upped the fan speed in later bios revisions- which I loaded to support Penryn. (After reading it's info)

But I'm also using a B1 stepping, and the temps seem to read fine- in certain programs. For example, HWMonitor read my T7500 temps ok, but not the Penryn.

My GPU is @ 64C compared to the CPU @ 56C according to PC Wizard 2008- right now surfing the web on wireless, AC powered. 28C Ambient.

But the effect on battery life running the fan 50-100% is a worry. I manage only 2hrs on average before shutdown. With the screen tho at 100% brightness. With wireless net + bluetooth mouse active.

    Just some ideas.

    Hi Ralcool,
Yes, I realise this is a year old post. But ive recently got a laptop with a Penryn that has a B1 stepping. Its a dell vostro, and works fine other than the CPU temperatures are not readable by all the software ive checked. Also the dell low level diagnostics says theres a problem with the CPU thermistor. Did you find any software that can read the Penryn cpu temps?

He hasn't posted here for months.

What software have you tried? HWMonitor? Everest?

There is no software support to read the DTS in B1 stepping Penryns.

    Which CPU is it ?

You can give coretemp, realtemp, HWINFO32 a try.
