    Hi guys.
As the title states, I was wondering if the new line of Penryn processors would be compatible with the Inspiron 1520. See the sig for info on my system specs. I am wanting to upgrade my processor to a T9300 as I've seen many others here, since they are both Socket P, it should work correct? I am also aware that if I upgrade the processor it would void my warranty, which wouldn't be all that smart considering I've only had my notebook for about 3 months and still have another 9 months of warranty.
I was mainly wondering if the 500Mhz increase and 4MB L2 increase would increase performance up to the notiecable point? I mainly use my system for gaming, for example Crysis, even though not a processor dependant game, I'm sure it would also help the framerates? Also FSX which is a processor dependant game, would it benefit greatly from the upgrade? More over, is it possible to even upgrade on a 1520 from Merom to Penryn, since I'm currently on the Santa Rosa platform, wasn't too sure.

I would greatly appreciate the feedback and help on this, thanks in advance.

While I'm not sure if it will have any noticeable improvements in said games, I'm quite sure that you can upgrade to Penryn, although I'm also not sure if it will void your warranty. Just be sure you've updated your BIOS to at least A05, as I think that's the one that supports Penryn processors.

EDIT: Like the font too lol :)

Gaming wise, you won't see very much of an increase, particularly for Crysis. You will be able to upgrade to the T9300, but it will void your warranty, as you are aware. You would probably see an increase in FSX, but your T7250 should be doing decently right now.

Check out the 6831FX posts about upgrading the T5450 to a T9300. You get a much better 3D mark06 score, but games don't always get a corresponding improvement. Moreover, your processor is quite a bit better than the T5450, which will make any improvement much smaller in proportion.

And, I like your font too, it's fetching.

Haha. It seems I'm getting more interest in my font than my actual thread :)
thanks guys, so would you say it's worth the upgrade? or should I remain with the T7250 for some time to come?
