So...
with the new release of the penryn chipset... will we finally be able to run ram at the fsb speed? Or will the 800mhz fsb still exist while limiting ram to 533 or 667, just like current s.r chipset shortfalls.
-
No.
Wait till Montevina. And by that point, they'd be using DDR3 RAM. -
....
-
You know, if you really want to use DDR2 800mhz ram you could use AMD platform
-
Do we know approximately when is the Montevina platform coming out??

It always disappoints me how far behind laptops are to desktops. Still no 800Mhz RAM support, yet what Intel is offering for desktops are far ahead of that.
Atleast the 8800M will be out soon which will help close the gap a bit. -
8800 already out I think! 8800GTX I believe!
-
Well, I meant, widely available.
-
Dont forget the 8800m GTS in the Gateway P-Series FX like the Gateway P-6831FX.
Also the Clevo 901c(Sager NP9262) supports DDR2-800 since it has a desktop chipset -
There's no point in making laptop DDR2-800 compatible if it will decrease a supposedly 3 hours of battery life to less than 2, assuming that's really the reason why Intel chose not to include DDR2-800 in Santa Rosa. Besides, Penryn is just a processor upgrade, not a new platform.
Also, laptops will always be behind desktops, unless they invent some new technology that will make powerful computing not rely on efficient heat reduction and power consumption.
Penryn support 800mhz ram finally?
