How much faster is a pentium M 760 2.0ghz than a 740 1.73ghz? I can't decide if i should upgrade my laptop, or just invest in a new machine altogether.

how much are u paying to upgrade?
300mhz isnt a huge jump in performance
if u want something alot faster, a new laptop is needed
the upgrade wont give u much more than wat u have now -

You would probaly be better off by buying a whole new PC. Unless it is a very cheap upgrade (50$ or something). A 2.0 GHz will be faster (in CPU intensive tasks and games) but not very noticable.
It all depends on the price. -
I know that 300mhz isnt that much when comparing pentium 4 chips, but I thought it made a significant difference with the Pentium M chips. I remember looking at some benchmark charts a couple years ago and being surprise by the difference. Unfortunately I cannot find these charts now.

The big advantage of the dual core CPUs is greater smoothness of operation because there are two CPUs to share the work load. The individual cores are not much faster than a Pentium M.
If you want to upgrade your current hardware, adding more RAM or a newer (= faster) HDD would be a better course of action and you may be able to carry over the investment to a new computer when you finally get one.
