Is it worth $200 to upgrade my Pentium M 725 to a Pentium M 760? If not, could someone please tell me why? At the moment, my DDR2 RAM is still stuck at a lousy 400Mhz because of my FSB, so I'd really like to improve that if it has any effect on performance.

well..yes i'm pretty sure it is possible as I'm pretty sure they use the same time of socket on the motherboard.
However, I don't quite understand the point of upgrading. 64 bit Core Duo CPU's are coming out later this year. Your processor will be 3 generations old. You may as well sell this one, and buy a new laptop, and besdies, a mobile CPU on it's own may be very hard to find. -
Yeah I don't really think it is worth it. Just save that $200 for a new laptop.

I'm not sure how I'd even go about selling this laptop since my parents bought it for me. The only way I'd be able to get a new one is to sell this one and get a dv5000t of the same form factor.
Also, I know that the CPU will work, as it's got PCI-Express onboard. -
If you are looking to keep the laptop for the long run then, I would say spending the extra $200 might be useful.
EDIT: Although the cpu is upgradable, PCI express has nothing to do with it. -
I plan on keeping the laptop for about 3 years. Yeah, I know that my computer is outdated (I got it in the mail the day Core Duo chips were shipping) but I feel I need a bit more performance than what Im getting now. -
Since you're already willing to take apart the notebook to get to the CPU socket, first try pin-modding your P-M 725. Free upgrade to the 2.13GHz 770 if it's stable.
Here's a few threads/articles with more info and how to do it:

well...yes actually....upgrading might be a good idea...my pentium III is very old but does not feel outdated.
-
Pinmodding seems the cheapest solution. I would choose that.
-
Is it worth it? No.
What do you need it for?
It won't help your programs load faster, and it won't really run your programs faster (meaning you won't feel a difference).
If you're a programmer or work with photoshop or something like that, then sure why not, but I'd say save your money.
Cheers,

I'll be looking to sell my 760 soon actually (by itself next month).
