so ive been messsing around on my temp laptop, and i installed CPU-Z. My processor is a 1.73 GHZ M. However, on CPU-Z, it says that it running at 798MHZ and every so often it fluctuates to full speed. Each time it fluctuates, my core VID either increases or decreases. It is plugged in to AC also. So whast going on. How do i get my processor to run at full speed. Im not familiar with the M series AT ALL!

Also, any help on overclocking :)

Most processors do that. They only take the power they need. For instance when your playing games it would clock to full speed but when your laptop is idling, it might just run at 798MHz. It's a very common feature actually.

As for oc'ing, I highly suggest not to do that. Laptop processor are pretty vulnerable because they don't have very good cooling systems such as those found in desktops. They overheat pretty quickly.

    I know the risks. :)

I just would like to try it on an M series processor. Never have done it before.

Its not overclocking, its pin modding :D
You should be able to pin mod your Pentium M from 1.73 to 2.16Ghz or so.
It is straight forward and simple to do. Just apply some good arctic silver paste and assemble your laptop back together again. Also make sure you put the wire in the right holes or you can destroy your laptop.

The throttling of yoru cpu clock speed is called intel speed step. This is completely normal and is actually good for the cpu. It is basically running in a lower power state when the cpu power is not all that needed. Forcing the cpu to run at full clock speed will not show any performance gain, since the same cpu power is used to run the program regardless of the clockspeed.

Disabling speed step will cause your cpu to run much hotter and so will pin modding the cpu.
