So I was looking for a socket 478 processor, for my parents laptop and came across some Socket 478 Pentium M (NOT Socket 479). While I'm guessing these are actually Socket 479 and just misrepresented, they confuse me. I've even googled their product numbers and i still get conflicting results. Does anybody know if these work with a Socket 478 P4 laptop?
The ones I'm interested in are
Intel Pentium M 725 1.6GHz Tray (RH80536GC0252M)
Intel Pentium M 735 1.7GHz Box (BXM80536GC1700F)
EDIT: Also, will a Mobile Pentium 4-M work on a Socket 478? I found it in the same category.

P4s and Pentium-Ms are fundamentally incompatible, they use different chipsets and a P4 motherboard would not support a Pentium-M cpu.
The number of pins is 478 and indeed 479, both versions of the Pentium-M were made but the pin configuration is different from the Pentium 4 whilst some having the same number of pins. This makes them incompatible physically with a socket 478 motherboard. -
See, that's what I thought. Stupid retailers, getting my hope up. Why I oughta...
What about the Mobile Pentium 4-M? Does that work with a Socket 478? and how's the performance/heat compared to a 2,8GHz Northwood without HT -
The Mobile Pentium 4 processors should work with your chipset.
Desktop processors will always be superior to mobile processors because it will use more power and produce more heat. -
We'll see. I found a used Mobile Pentium 4-M for about $12, which is very cheap. So i'm gonna pick that up and try it out.

It's a laptop, but it uses a desktop p4 northwood, so the board is very likely a desktop one. Hopefully it'll work. I'll also be trying it in my dead desktop. I'm not sure why it died in the first place, but trying to fix it, i broke a few CPU pins, so it's got several issues now.

Both the desktop P4 Northwood, and the P4M Northwood use a Socket 478 Package, so they should physically fit. There might be problems with BIOS compatability though.
