Hi,
I'm buy the laptop DELL Latitude D400 with Pentium M 1.4Ghz, 1GB DDR 266Mhz and 30 GB HD, but, I have one desktop with - P4 HT 2.8Ghz, 512MB DDR 400Mhz in Dual, and 40GB HD.
The question is, what's the better machine? My processor M or P4 Ht?
Thanks!!
** I like so much to see a benchmark test about the cpus....
Thanks again!

The P4 will be slightly more powerful, but u won't see a big difference, if any in day to day tasks.
Now if u go benchmarking, the desktop will come out ahead. -
I agree with adinu. The Pentium M is very efficient processor, however, it has a very low clock speed, but it will still be able to compete with the Pentium 4. If you were comparring a Core Duo or Core 2 Duo to the Pentium 4, then the difference would be much larger in favour of the Core Duo/Core 2 Duo.

Except that the Pentium M has a gig of RAM. The new machine should be much faster, especially once you get more than one program open.
-
HT will make the desktop feel considerably faster and snappier. If it is configured with 256mbX2 of memory (dual channel) it will have another advantage over the Pentium M.
And finally don't forget the disk. A 4200 rpm on your laptop does not have a chance against even the slowest 7200 desktop drive. -
You cannot directly compare Pentium M and Pentium 4 desktop chips. Pentium M is actually faster at equivalent clock speeds. It is apples and oranges really.
-
Well they both are processors and they do the same job. There are benchmarks where you can compare them irrespective of clocks, architecture etc. We know that the Pentium M is faster clock per clock but not twice as fast at the same clock speed.

Thanks so much!!!
Pentium M X P4 (desktop)
