Does anyone know how much performance, if any, I'd get from pinmodding my 1.6Ghz Pentium M to 2.13Ghz? Right now my FSB is at a sluggish 400Mhz, making my DDR2 533Mhz RAM run below peak speed.
I'm asking because any type of pinmodding would obviously void my warranty. I'd rather not break my laptop as I need it for school.
Any ideas?

hahaha... please do enlighten on the topic of pin-modding... not that i would ever do it, i am just curious as to what it is...

You would be better off just selling your laptop on like Craigslist.org and buying a new one. Then you would see a jump in performance
-
You can't do it if you have a 400 fsb mobo .
If anyone interested I might put in a photo tutorial as I plan on doing it myself ( parts on the way + new digital camera ordered = notebook in parts ) .
Overall its a good idea , somewhat risky but cost effective . -
Yeah 400 fsb is pretty slow, my old Northwood 2.0 GHZ P4 was 400 FSB and man....I could still almost cook little pancakes on my chip. Even if you could do it, I don't think it would be cost effective at all.

As for the difference between 1.6ghz and 2ghz, I think it will start to show with Vista coming and "you tube" expanding (just to point a few) but the other components should also be in line with the CPU - more RAM, faster HDD. -
Agreed, the memory and hard drive are better places to start for a performance upgrade.
-
To answer the original question...yes, it would be a signifigant jump in performance.
-
Yeah, when the i9300 was the hot stuff, the goal was to pin mod a 1.6ghz and install a 7800gtx. If you do pin mod, remember you have to overvolt the processor to make it stable. Everything else should be ok.
I would get a pentium m from ebay and try it out. One person did that with xps m170 on nbr. I just can't remember his name... -
It will really depend on what you are doing. Webpages aren't going open any faster with the new CPU.
