I have a set of cheapo speakers in my bedroom that i plug in to the headphone jack on my laptop. Over time, the plug (3.5mm) has bent and is not reliable - probably because the orientation of the speaker and the side of the laptop that it plugs into.
Lately ive been using another set of cheap speakers with a red/white with a 3.5mm converstion plug. Of course this is starting to bend again and not providing reliable operation. My old laptop had the plug on the other side so it didn't bend the wire.
Is there a wireless device or something that can accomplish this? How do people who listen to a lot of music on a laptop deal with it?

Go get yourself an external USB sound dongle and run as long a USB cord as necessary to it. Plug the speakers into the sound dongle.
Might want to get a set of cheap amplified speakers too, to minimize the amount of power pulled from the USB connector (which can only supply 0.5a anyway). Total cost for this setup could be as low as $50-.
Some of the USB sound dongles have spdif output which, if connected to a decent sound system, will give you 5.1 or 7.1 audio. Probably a big upgrade from what you have now. -
I use 3.5mm M to 3.5mm F extensions, in the 3-6ft range, to deal with short cables. If your plug is getting damaged because of the angle and force you're placing on the cable, I'd be a LOT more concerned by the potential for damage to the jack than damage to the wire/plug. Same goes for a USB dongle, only now you can damage either the audio jack or the USB port. By the way, with a little bit of electrical know-how, you can cut off a damaged plug and splice in a replacement, assuming your mono to stereo adapter is a cable and not just a solid adapter.
