So I took the plunge and upgraded to a slot loading DL DVD burner. I just downloaded the new PC Wizard 2006 to mess around with and noticed that the burn speeds were off. Here are the burn specifications for the Pioneer DVR-K05:

    CD-R: 24X
    CD-RW:24X
    DVD-R: 8X
    DVD-RW: 6X
    DVD+R: 8X
    DVD+RW: 8X
    DVD-R DL: 4X
    DVD+R DL: 4X

See the attached images to see what PC Wizard 2006 is reporting. To be sure, I burned an 8X Fuji DVD-R with Nero and didn't see it go past 6X. Any ideas? Device Manager is reporting that the burner is indeed running at UDMA 2. Thanks in advance.

Do you have the latest firmware?

Might also want to check http://club.cdfreaks.com/ the guys over there are amazingly knowledgeable with optical drives, or you might find a resolution already posted.

    Thanks.

To my knowledge, there are no firmware updates as of yet. I'll check out http://club.cdfreaks.com and see if they can help. Anyway, I tried burning another disc this morning... Nero does say that it's burning at 8x but after the 8 or so minutes are up in the time remaining field, it automatically adds another 5 minutes. 14 minutes to burn a 4.7GB disc at 8x. Sucks.

Never mind, I think it's an error on PC Wizard's part. After running Nero CD/DVD Speed and confirming that it reads up to 8X, I ran PC Wizard again and got the following information. Go figure.
