Hi i just got my lenovo y410p shipped to me yesterday and I am having tons of issue trying to clone or move the disk over. (running windows 8.1)

I am not sure what is the best approach to this.
    - Complete clone (is what i am trying)
    - move only the required os partition over and make it bootable?

I tried all the software out there (1TB HHD => 250GB SSD)
xxclone, seagate's software (aka acronis), easeUs and many more..
NONE of them can make it past the windows reboot screen if required.

always some type of error showing up
for acronis it says something like runtime exception : cannot find ###~

I am not exactly sure of the issue here... and would like suggestions from you guys.
My idea is something concerning this thing called Secureboot which prevents other os other than
windows from running which stopped the progress of cloning files on boot?

Other's can give you more current advice for cloning...

My advice? Do yourself a favor and do a clean install to your new SSD - even if it is only a restore from CD/USB key that you made from the new system.

    Good luck.

Not sure if this is the case with Lenovo, but some manufacturers (HP and Asus do this) have a built-in program that allows you to create recovery media on a USB drive or DVDs, which will put the system to its out-of-the-box state on a new hard drive.

Did you not make a Restore disk?

You should be able to call Lenovo and order one, correct?

Yeah, their wait times are brutal, I know.

Still, if you didn't make one when you got the system - the only other way would be to borrow or buy a Windows install disk with the same version of Windows as what you're running to get this going on the new SSD.

I'm not certain about IdeaPads such as Y410, but ThinkPads do have a recovery partition that allows you to create recovery media, in case of W8.x that would be an USB.

Look at your hard drive: how many partitions are there, and what are their names?

    Hi,
    Use software usually is easier.
My tool is aomei backupper. if I came to your problem, all solutions will be worked
    You said
    - Complete clone (is what i am trying), my tool supports disk clone
    - move only the required os partition over and make it bootable? my tool supports system backup then restore, partition clone and Create Bootable Rescue Media

    All the best
