I want to get rid of this stupid blue screen that pops up before Windows start-up.

Its not an error, it just forces me to choose a boot device every time the computer is restarted. Windows is fine and all, and I can boot into it, but everytime i restart my comp. I have to deal with this stupid screen!

It gives me the options of :

    Sata
    USB
    IDE

    Any ideas?

Can't you go into the bios options and change the boot order?

    First of all, which laptop?

But like joker says, there should be an option in the BIOS. It sounds more like an option is toggled on to let you choose boot device every time.

    JKleiss,

this issue seems like a bios configuration problem - your possible solution would only work if the O/S was the one doing the 'asking' (instead of the BIOS - which loads before the O/S).

I believe the boot time out is only for selecting an OS, rather I think it is from the BIOS but I can't figure out what to change so it stops annoying me! Uploading a pic in a bit

    Here:

It's a desktop, but I trust the people over here at NBR to help me!
Boot Priority goes like this: Ext. HDD, IDE DVD/RW, and then finally my SATA HDD.

    ronnieb,

without sitting at your computer while it is in the BIOS I won't be able to give you a step by step.

However, you are looking for options under the BOOT tab, also under the Options and/or the Advanced tabs in the BIOS.

Basically, not only do you have to select a default boot drive, you have to disable the menu that allows you to choose which device to boot from.

If you're feeling lucky, assuming that this computer is not using any special BIOS settings to boot - you may want to go to each tab/screen in the BIOS and select 'Reset to Default Values'. This would be a fairly drastic last step, but this should allow your computer to boot normally.

The best thing to do is take a high quality picture (make sure you verify the quality!) of each menu tab to be able to put the BIOS settings back how they were if the 'Reset to Default Values' causes more problems than what you're trying to solve!

Good luck with this issue - I can see how this can get old, really fast. ;)

Default might be for the boot menu too. It should be fairly reasonably easy to find. If OP can provide make/model of the mobo usually the BIOS screens are in the owners manual.

Ah! Then try to disable the USB boot devices in the BIOS - or, disable 'legacy' USB Keyboard support (something like that).

    Good sleuthing!

Please provide make and model of motherboard so we can at least help identify bios screens that could turn it off.

    Ok, try this in BIOS:

Advanced / Onboard Devices Configuration / Marvell Storage Controller = ENABLE / Marvell Storage Boot ROM = DISABLE.

You will probably have to enable that if you want to boot from an IDE device though.
