I have a toshiba satellite A55. It's been a great laptop for 3 1/2 years! Several days ago the screen started giving out. When I open the lid it flickers and when part or fully open goes white, it doesn't turn off, it just turns white. I think the back light must still be on. When I open it slowly it often stays on, but if I open it fast it turns to a white screen. Does anyone know what may be causing this? Is it the cable or the switch? I think the switch must be in the hinge, because I can't find it anywhere else. Could this be? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Check the connection. It may be loose.

Did you try on an external monitor? If its good, it means your inverter board need to be replace since the backlight still working based on your report. The inverter board is easy to replace just pull out the connector both side of it. If the result on an external monitor is the same, I say its your video chip is failling. -
Thanks for the advice. It works on an external monitor. When I open the lid of my laptop very slowly the screen comes on, but if I open it faster it flickers and turn white. Sometimes when I wiggle the lid the screen flickers or comes on. It seems to be a connection; either the hing or cable. It this time I'm guessing the cable but I'm not sure if this is right or even how to tell. Thanks for your suggestions.
