    Hello,

I've purchased a couple of IDE adapters but can't get either to work. I had one years ago that worked fine but I'm wondering if that had to do with the IDE controller in my PC or the adapter.

The two I purchased had all the pins - no center pin missing so I had to remove the pin - my first indication their might be a problem. I tried removing the top pin on one and the bottom pin on the other - neither solution worked.

The IDE controller on my PC is an Intel 82801eb (ultra ata).

So, you put them into the notebook and they are not working? I assume you're talking about where you put the hard drive's pins into.
Could you explain the situation a bit more?

There are adapters such as this one - http://www.vastercable.com/product_info.php?products_id=33 which you use to connect a notebook hard drive to your PC IDE cable. I can't get this one to work but am guessing there are some that do work since I had one a few years ago that worked fine.

Drive works fine in my notebook but not when attached to my PC. The ide cable and power work fine on my PC for other drives. I have the notebook drive at the end of the ide cable with no other drives attached to the cable.

There are times when a drive becomes corrupt in sectors where it is possible to connect it to your PC hard drive to gather some files off of it.

How about buying a case and hooking it up through the USB port.

Do you use the DriveLock mechanism ?

My hard drive will not be picked up correctly if I leave the DriveLock password on. Works fine without it.

The problem is that the desktop controller doesn't have DriveLock function implemented.

THanks - I really appreciat the input from people here just a different lable - I'm willing to bet it is the same part as the one shown so I feel confident ordering either.

    Thanks

The master / slave jumper issue will apply if you are directly connecting a 2.5" HDD into a desktop. You might be OK (ie the default no jumper) if your 2.5" HDD is the only device on an IDE channel, but if something else is already connected then you will need to set it to slave. There might be a diagram on the HDD label or you will need to look at the documents on the manufacturer's web site. Finding a suitably small jumper might not be easy. In which case set the other device on the channel to be slave.
