I hope that you guys can help me figure out how to diagnose a problem with the ASUS N81V a friend of mine has. His battery charges up to 47% and quits, although the status says charging. If I pull the plug out of the laptop with the battery in it, the laptop shuts down. Any solutions to what I can do.

From experience. If the battery will only charge to 57 percent something is wrong and I would suspect the battery first. If the battery is defective I would also expect that when you plug the laptop back in the battery shows it is charging from 0 percent again.

As an example, I have an old Sony laptop which I don't use anymore and its battery will charge up to 100 percent. But the battery dies within 2 minutes of use. When the laptop is again plugged in the battery charge shows 0 percent and starts charging again to just repeat the senario.

Unless he can try the battery in another computer I would return it and try another.
