I have regular DDR memory on my Dell Dimension 2400, and I need to find out how fast the memory is in my computer. I have heard there are programs which do so, but dont know of any myself. Thank you- all answers appriciated.

CPU-Z will do and free, just Google! Also crucial.com can scan your PC and help also.
-
www.cpuid.com - click "CPU-Z" on the left hand size, download, unzip, run, enjoy.

That's always a good place to start when buying RAM. Here's the specific place for your laptop: http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=Dimension%202400%20Series -
