Hey all,
My brother has bought a M3438G Fujistu Siemens notebook. It was all formatted and drivers were on it. Then I tought: lets do a Windows update. At that same moment I changed the amount of virtual memory. When both were finished, I did a reset (windows told me to do it)...
Since then the nightmare began. I cannot start my pc up. I only see a black screen and the 'On' Led is burning but that's all.
Things I have tried:
- Original Windows XP cd, try to repair: failed cant get to bios.
- I have pulled the battery out, pressed on for 20 seconds then restarted with battery: failed, still cant get to the bios.
- I dont want to open the notebook to reset the mainboard battery. I am too newbie to do that.
- I have no floppy disk to do a bios thingy or something.
Mates please help me I am begging you guys, my brother will get mad if he hears me that I killed his pc![]()

Most notebooks have a hard reset "button" on the bottom of the notebook... or on the back. Look for it and try to press it (perhaps for 5 seconds or so).

Virtual memory in every single operating system known to man never interfaces with anything vital hardware wise on the computer. Not being able to post seems like a pretty big broken hardware related problem.
Personally I would start by reseating the ram modules, leaving the battery out for maybe 10-20 minutes, etc, then if that did not work calling up to make a repair schedule. -
The things you did would not cause the problems you describe. You're not giving us enough information to help you. -
Hi hitman, sorry for delay
First: don't play with virtual memory - all those things about manual setting for better performance usually end up in much worse. I have seen too many wise guys. (Not pointing to any of course). There is a whole site with XP myths, where you can check many of the so called "optimizations". That is of course only my recommendation.
Second: the thing you are seeing is probably the wrong driver or something. There is no way that updating and changing virtual memory could have produced such things.
So maybe your BIOS is set to skip the POST and go directly to the loading windows screen, where it stops. It is strange that you cannot see anything though.
Do you know the key that enters the BIOS? Again I have seen many people hitting the wrong key. Try F2, del, F10....
And others have posted good ideas, can you give more info?
Cheers,
Please help me, I have a big big problem!
