Hi guys, I have the following problem and hope you can help me out.
I have a Dell Inspiron 17R (2012)
Intel core i7-3610GM
6GB DDR3
Nvidia 750m 2GB DDR5
Samsung EVO 250
hdd 750gb
Windows 8.1
A few months ago I installed a new ssd, a Samsung Evo 250. I'm very happy about it however.I've noticed that my laptop is getting very hot during gaming ever since I've installed it and it has come to the point where the laptop just overheats and powers off. This never happened before I installed the SSD. You might think it's the gpu but I've measered temperatures and they don't go above 87-89°C. What's noticable is that it's getting hot where the HDD and ssd are located.
The SSD installation didn't go very smooth. I had a problem with my bios not recognizing the new SSD. When I installed windows and the installation completed and rebooted, the bios said there was no operating system detected. Switching the hdd and ssd from slot didn't help. In the end in the bios options I changed boot list option legacy to uefi (whatever that is) and that did the trick. I thought the problem was solved but now with the overheating Im starting the think theres something really wrong. Everything started with my bios not accepting the simple swap of hdd and ssd
Thanks in advance!

Uefi is a newer bios type. It shouldn't affect anything after windows boots.

Swap the SSD with original hard drive and make sure it caused by the SSD, if the HDD works without any problem, back up the system to an external hard drive using Macrium or AOMEI backupper, you also create a recovery disk with those utilities, secure wipe the SSD, install it and using recovery disk and backup image install again and see whether it helps.

Clean out the fans and air ducts and also reapply a quality TIM to the cpu and gpu. That will rule out those components as the source of the issue.
If the SSD really is getting that hot (instead of simply being heated up from the other components) - you'll need to RMA it or use a cooler running SSD like an Intel 520 Series, a SanDisk Extreme or an M4 (if you can still find one).
Making sure you have updated the drivers and firmware on all devices is also a good idea too.
Good luck.
Please help, latop overheating ever since ssd installation.
