    Got a Plextor M3s 256gb for $274.99....Should I have gone for the Samsung 830 for $250?

It was a tossup between the 830 and M3s, but I did like the 5 year warranty and reliability of Plextor products. I didn't go for the M3P as it was $100 more and not a great performance boost at the 256gb version (or so I've read)

    Good deal?

I prefer the Marvell controller based stuff. Samsung's vertically integrated but they kept their prices high for a long time. These sudden drops are making me think they're about to release something new.

Besides a 5 year warranty is always a nice thing.

No, considering the great deals on Samsung 830 SSDs that have been popping up. Something like $110 for the 128GB, and $235 for the 256GB. It does make you wonder why they've been dropping in price but these SSDs are rock solid reliable. Maybe its because of competition lowering their prices or maybe its because Samsung will release their next consumer SSD? Who knows, who cares. Buy now!

Samsung SSDs "only" come with a 3 year warranty. In 3 years time, most of us will have probably upgraded to the newer model anyways. If you think you can make it to 5 years, than the Plextor has that going for it.

What do you mean by "vertically integrated?"

They own their own fab, design their own controller, NAND, PCB, etc. They do everything in-house instead of buying it from someone. They own the whole process from top to bottom, which is where the term comes from (though technically I suppose they buy the metal from someone instead of mining their own). Supposedly by not having to pay someone else for controllers and NAND they should be able to keep prices down but the 830 has been out for quite a while now and is only just now dropping to a price point equal to or below its competition.
