Hi I just received a replacement hdd for my m1530 since the old one mysteriously stopped working. It still works since I booted into ubuntu live cd and got some files (strangely files greater than 144mb wouldnt move) back.

I want to plug the hdd into my desktop to get some files, I hope it's possible. The hdd i am trying to plug into my desktop is HD250JI by Samsung.

My desktop is buried behind a load of wires, I want to make sure the ports work before I crack it open. It's a dimension 9100. I am pretty sure computers made in the last 5 years or so all use SATA right?

Yes - it will work just fine - as long as you have a spare SATA data cable. You may/probably have a spare SATA power lead in your desktop case. Even if your system doesn't use a SATA drive it may still have a SATA port on the motherboard. I used an H-P desktop at home to image my Eee PC laptop drive by just disconnecting the 3.5 inch boot drive and connecting the laptop drive - then booting from the Eee PC restore CD - it worked like a charm. Good luck...

Any tips on getting rid of (factory supplied :( ) fingerprints on the lid of my 1530? The blue lid is very nice but the fingerprints detract from an otherwise great appearance. I tried rubbing alcohol and LCD cleaner - even alcohol based hand cleaner to no avail...
