I know that the Tl 50 is slower than core duo processors but I'm wondering how it would compare to the Pm 740. I appreciate you're input.

In single threaded applications, the 740 is faster. Anything else, the turion is faster. Despite being slower, the TL 50 has more power than most people need.

You're comparing a single-core CPU to a dual-core one, not really a clear-cut comparison. I would agree with e^2.
What are you doing with this machine? -

The Pentium M should win out in all the single-threaded benchmarks, but the Turion X2 TL-50 will win out in every multithreaded benchmark because it is dual-core.

If you're choosing between systems, go with the Turion, as dual-core (and up, I guess) is the future.
