I don't know if any of you are fans of pointing sticks, I happen to love them. I have a t60 that has a trackpoint, and I've become so accustomed to it that I hate using touchpads on other laptops. I've been looking around for a laptop that I'll buy for college within the next couple months, and I have decided that my new laptop must have a pointing stick, because I feel so much more efficient with it.

I've done some research, and almost every (if not all) laptops that offer a pointing stick are business class laptops. And many of these laptops have business-class graphics, which aren't the type I'm looking for. (I'm looking for a good gaming laptop)

So my question boils down to this: Is there a laptop that has mainstream graphics (good enough to last for a couple years on modern games), that has a pointing stick or has the option of upgrading to a keyboard with a pointing stick?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

I would say that the Thinkpad Trackpoint is the best pointing stick style mouse. The others are better than a touchpad still though.

I would look at workstation laptops like the Thinkpad W series, Precision, and EliteBook w series.

Depending on where you live, some of the Thinkpad Edge models might be available with discrete graphics.

Also, consider and external graphics card.

Most 'business' graphics cards are just a rebadge of a similar gaming card. I know I can flash my m8900 to a 6970...

I have yet to see a noticeable performance difference between a business card and a gaming card.
