On your internal hard drives, that is. Curious what the balance is between using what's been paid for and having some more left over for later.

I always buy the lowest capacity offered by a series of harddrives. For one their is the single platter advantage in access times, and I dont need a lot of capacity. For example I bought three 160Gb Hitachi 7K320 harddrives. I only use 41Gb of my 149Gb drive on my Dell E1505, and about the same capacity on my other two 7K320's.

Lots of people need large internal harddrives, but I can make use of a lower capacity drive cause I store most of stuff on external drives.

I will fill up my hard drive with games, music, videos and pictures so quickly. I filled up a 80GB laptop in one year, then got a 100GB that filled up in 9months, then a 160, filled in 13 months, now have a 320GB and it only has 90GB left after 4 months. I do use my computer for gaming a lot, it's a gaming laptop... but can stand to wait a little longer for the added space, just not 4200rpm longer...

& All those older laptops had other problems, the HDD being full wasn't the main reason I replaced them.

Total hard drive capacity is 120 GB.

I do have a Ubuntu dual-boot and lots of podcasts and such on both partitions. I'll probably get more space once I add the 15% that's free but unformatted to my Windows partition.

I'm pricing larger drives, but want to save up some more money first.

Wow. That's a lot. How long do you expect it to last?

I'm over 99% in use. Virtual machines and movies take the brunt of the blame - it took me three times as long to get a 120 GB hard drive to 75% full a few years back. Waiting to see the 500 GB, 7200 RPM prices before buying a new drive - for now musical file deletion is working well, but Windows 7 beta will throw that into disarray. Guesstimating about 240 GB in use with larger capacity and one OS, perhaps a bit more dual-booting with 7.

Oh, and that network drive is on my school's network and I can only use 100 MB of it. So the 1.14 TB free isn't doing me a whole lot of good :p.

I would expect it to last at least two years before I either run out of space or get tired of it and rebuild my fileserver. The one I have now is kind of sloppy in regards to cable management and half my drives are hot swappable and the other half are not. Ideally I'd like to have them all setup in backplanes but I reused my desktop case and only had room for one backplane.

On my laptop about 50% of 200GB is free space. On my desktop about 60% is free space of 750GB.

My WD 80GB is at 97% right now. I have an external 100GB HDD for backups + another 250GB & 160GB WD 3.5" HDD with a lot of software, videos, etc.
I need a WD5000BEVT as soon as possible.

I'm using 45ish Gb of my 160gb drive. Could free up a few gigs with disk cleanup though. I don't see myself using a lot more than that in the near future though. Web design stuff doesn't take up a lot of space.

When I install my video editing software, that's another 10gb gone though.

But just to be awkward, that's the proportion of the drive that's available to Windows; I shrank the drive a while back and haven't got around to creating a new partition.

Of that I'm using about half so that would make it 26%... Take away system restore and I'm down to about 18%.

I've got 13GB/186GB free, I haven't a clue where all the space went as I don't play games much! I used to have an 80GB that was filled to capacity. I upgraded to a Travelstar 7K200 expecting it to last for the lifetime of my laptop but only one year later I'm constantly burning things to DVD. I need Seagate to bring out the 500GB 7200.4 and fast!

i got a 500gb 5400rpm drive thats about 90% full of movies, music and "stuff" on my sager 2090 that i use for my travels. on my desktop at home i got 5.6 TBs out of 7 1 TB drives also full of movies that i download from torrent sites. when i am at my hotel room or on the plane i download some movies remotely from home to my laptop. my games also take up lots of space but i dont know how many i got, lets just say i got alot of them.

That's because I always get annoyed when the answer to a poll is 50% and then I have to decide between 40-50% and 50-60%.

Using about 50% of my 320GB HD, though it fluctuates. Sometimes when I have a big dl it will be more full til I transfer it to my 640GB ext HD (which is about 2/3 full).
